Description
In 1968 Aristid Lindenmayer introduced a model of plant development to the world. His "L-system" is a formal grammar, a language to describe branching growth.
These videos are the expression of a statement in such a language. It was grown from a single point by a process of recursive substitution. The drawing technique is very much like "turtle graphics", where a point is given instructions about where to move and what color to draw by the L-system.
The videos show different color remappings of the image to bring out various details and relationships between the parts of the image.
These works are 100 seconds long video files at 3840 by 2160 pixels and 25 frames per second. Produced in 2023.
