Joanie Lemercier - Fine Particles #13

Fine Particles #13

Le Random Logo
Artist Note
Description

Joanie Lemercier is an artist and climate activist, and “Fine Particles” is a blend of both. He has created many series of plotter drawings over the years and in the last three years, he has turned his attention to rendering clouds with a pointillist style. These sublime drawings represent the beauty of the natural world. “Fine Particles” pushes his stippled cloud work in a new direction by dissecting the images into measured grids. He’s referencing the objective perspective of climate science by dividing his landscapes into measured units. In doing this, he subverts the elegance of his original drawings to ask some questions from the viewer. Are the dots water droplets or pollution? Does the process of measurement obscure the cloud images to a point where they are no longer legible?

“Fine Particles” is a digital art NFT, but the first collector of each in the series will receive the corresponding plotter drawing created in the artist’s studio. The software NFT and the plotter drawing aren’t linked together; the NFT can continue to be collected on a secondary market without the drawing.

The image you see on the main artwork page on Feral File is the plotter drawing for #1/30. Compare this image of the drawing to the corresponding software version to see how the software image and the plotted drawing are similar and how they diverge. Because the artists are using a range of papers and inks, the software and physical drawings are delightfully different.

Dimensions: 60 × 60 cm Paper: Fedrigoni, Sirio Ultra Black, 280 gr/m2 Pen: Mitsubishi Uniball Signo 0.1 Machine: Axidraw Max (custom)
