Minnesang is a long-form AI series updating on an early musical play themed around data wars created by Holly Herndon and Mat Dryhurst in 2015 titled Minnesang: A Tale of Bits And Atoms. This series works to generate character portraits to accompany the play, adding a new level of visual depth to coincide with the play’s AI generated music. The inspiration for the series comes from the historic Codex Manesse, the single most comprehensive source of Middle High German Minnesang poetry, written and illustrated between 1304 and 1340.
