Ringers #999
Ringers is an iconic long-form series of 1,000 uniquely generated artworks by Dmitri Cherniak exploring the near-infinite possible variations of a looped string woven around a peg-grid. Aesthetically reminiscent of Swiss designer Armin Hofmann’s 1965 designs, Cherniak beautifully displays the potential of a procedural system to generates hundreds of variations that are all unique yet cohesive at the same time. Ringers have become a staple of excellence within the generative art community, inspiring both artists and collectors alike.
With Ringers #999’s red body and it being the final mint from the 1,000 editions, Dmitri Cherniak personally titled it the “Buzzer Beater.”
There are an almost infinite number of ways to wrap a string around a set of pegs. On the surface it may seem like a simple concept but prepare to be surprised and delighted at the variety of combinations the algorithm can produce. Each output from 'Ringers' is derived from a unique transaction hash and generated in Javascript in the browser. Feature variations include peg count, sizing, layout, wrap orientation, and a few colorful flourishes for good measure.
