Marius Watz
Marius Watz is a Norwegian artist specializing in visual abstraction through generative systems. A lifelong passion for the visual arts led him to pursue a self-taught path, leaving behind computer science studies to design graphics for raves in 1993. Watz’s compositions synthesize form through parametric behaviors and feature bold geometric shapes and vibrant colors. His practice includes software-based creations, public projections and physical objects crafted using a range of digital technologies.
In Fall 2013, Watz served as an adjunct and resident researcher at NYU ITP, focusing on parametric form and digital fabrication. He has also lectured in Interaction Design at the Oslo School of Architecture and Design.
Watz’s work has been exhibited at institutions such as the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, TodaysArt in The Hague, ITAU Cultural in São Paulo, MuseumsQuartier in Vienna and Galleri ROM in Oslo. In 2005, he founded Generator.x, a platform organizing events that explore generative art and computational design. In 2010, Watz co-curated the exhibition abstrakt Abstrakt: The Systemized World at the Frankfurter Kunstverein with Eno Henze.
